Ignition Edge IIoT turns a remote device into a lightweight, MQTT-enabled edge gateway. It sits at the edge of a network, pulls in device data, and publishes that data outward, either to an MQTT broker or directly to a central Ignition Gateway over a Gateway network connection. The two deployment architectures: Remote IIoT edge IIoT acts as an edge gateway, publishing device data to an MQTT broker and/or to a central Ignition Gateway. A downloadable architecture diagram PDF is available. Standalone IIoT: Edge IIoT runs on its own, connecting to OPC UA sources and PLCs directly, and publishing to an MQTT broker or Ignition Gateway without needing a paired remote setup. PDF here. Core capabilities: Unlimited tags and devices for included drivers, and it functions as an OPC UA server, so it connects to most PLCs out of the box. Cross-platform — runs on nearly any edge device or OS. MQTT/Sparkplug transmission — publishes to any MQTT broker using the Sparkplug specification (this is where the strategic partnership with Cirrus Link Solutions comes in for the MQTT modules). Remote synchronization — acts as a limited remote server syncing data back to a central Ignition Gateway. Remote EAM Agent Gateway — when paired with a central Gateway running the Enterprise Administration Module (EAM), Edge IIoT can act as a managed remote agent. Scripting and REST APIs at the edge, for interfacing with third-party systems locally. Built-in historian — stores locally up to 35 days or 10 million data points, whichever limit hits first. Alarm notifications and event logging, both stored locally at the edge.
