Tax exemption
If you buy for resale, or you are otherwise exempt, send the certificate once and every order after it comes through untaxed.

Do it before you order
This is the whole point of the page. A certificate on file means tax is never charged; a certificate sent afterwards means a refund, which is possible and is genuinely more work for both of us - it is a credit note, a reconciliation, and a line on somebody's statement that has to be explained.
Send it now, even if you are not ordering today. It takes one business day to process and it never expires from our side - only from the issuing state's.
What to send
- The certificate itself, as a PDF or a clear photograph. A scan of a scan is usually fine; a screenshot of a portal is usually not.
- The exact legal entity name that will appear on orders. This has to match, and it is the thing that most often does not - 'Acme LLC' and 'Acme Industrial LLC' are two different customers to a tax authority.
- The states it covers, if it is not obvious from the document.
Multi-state resellers: send each state's certificate rather than one and an assurance about the others. We apply exemption per shipping destination, because that is how the liability works.
What happens then
We check it, file it against your account, and confirm by email within one business day. From that point checkout stops adding tax on shipments to the covered states, with nothing for you to remember or tick.
Guest orders cannot be exempt, and that is not us being awkward - an exemption attaches to a customer, and a guest checkout has no customer to attach it to. If you are exempt, use an account.
Keeping it current
Some states issue certificates that expire. We will email before one does rather than after, because the alternative is an order that unexpectedly arrives with tax on it and a purchasing department that wants to know why.
Tell us if your entity name changes, you are acquired, or you register in a new state. All three invalidate a certificate quietly.
What we cannot do
We cannot advise you on whether you are exempt, or on which certificate applies to what. We are a distributor, not your accountant, and a confident wrong answer from us would be worse than no answer.
