The SECS/GEM module lets Ignition talk to semiconductor fab equipment using three SEMI standards: GEM (E30-0307), SECS-II (E5-0712), and HSMS (E37-0308). The module acts strictly as a host — it can query and receive from equipment, but it cannot simulate or respond as equipment itself (aside from its limited built-in test simulator). Single-tool connection setup: Each Equipment Connection maps to exactly one tool and one database. That's the core unit you'd configure for a single-tool deployment: Transport: Either Ethernet via TCP/IP using the HSMS protocol, or a direct serial link using SECS-I over RS-232. Database requirement: Every equipment connection needs an associated database, used to log sent/received messages for audit purposes and to store some configuration data. Licensing: You can configure as many equipment connections as your license permits — for a single-tool setup, you'd just need one, and it can share a database connection with other connections or use its own.
