Sequential Function Charts (SFC) Module The Sequential Function Charts (SFC) module brings a graphical, flowchart-style way to build sequential control logic in Ignition, based on the IEC 61131-3 standard used widely in industrial automation. Instead of writing procedural scripts to manage multi-step processes, teams can lay out steps, transitions, and parallel branches visually, making batch processes, startup and shutdown sequences, and other multi-stage operations easier to build, read, and maintain. An SFC is made up of steps and transitions. Steps represent an action or state in the process, and transitions define the conditions that move the process from one step to the next. Parallel blocks let multiple sequences run side by side, with support for the full Ignition expression language and editor helpers in both transition and parallel block cancel conditions, so complex branching logic doesn't require dropping into raw scripting. Charts can call other charts, pause, restart, or cancel mid-execution, and encapsulating logic into reusable chart templates keeps larger control strategies organized rather than duplicated across screens. SFCs integrate directly with Ignition tags, so a chart can read live process values to drive its transitions and write values back out as it executes, tying sequential logic straight into the same tag structure used across the rest of a project. Key Features Graphical, flowchart-style sequential control logic Steps, transitions, and parallel execution blocks Full Ignition expression language support in transitions and cancel conditions Reusable, encapsulated chart templates Tight integration with Ignition tags for live data-driven control Support for pausing, restarting, and canceling running charts
